Caravan holidays in Wales

August 12th, 2009

So i thought i would do an article about something that’s a little different here on CheapHotelsinCardiff. This time its the caravan market which while its not a million miles away from hotels it is a different kettle of fish in many ways. What im going to be looking at specifically are caravan holidays in Wales and the surrounding areas. The growth in this market has been pretty big over the last couple of years due to more and more people looking to stay at home in Wales instead of travelling abroad. Few people realise just how much cheaper a caravan holiday can be than a traditional trip overseas. Prices have come down over the last few years and your traditional holiday camps such as Butlins and Haven have really stepped up what the offer in terms of entertainment at the resort.

For many the traditional caravan holiday conjures up memories of cars towing mobile homes up and down the M1 with a few hundred frustrated drivers behind them. The key difference in a static caravan holiday is that the finish and amenities on offer in the accommodation is much better. Your average mobile home really cant compete with the kitchen appliances bedrooms and overall space and comfort of a proper static caravan. Indeed there are some real luxury caravans coming onto the market in recent years that make you wonder if your not staying in a 5 star hotel and not a trailer!

Another big draw with the big campsites is what they have to offer in terms of amenities onsite. I can’t tell you how much of a difference it can make on your holiday when you don’t have to travel for miles with kids to the next activity. Just as an example the Haven resorts in North Wales offer some great deals coming in at just £500 per week for a mid-size caravan, but the best thing is all the great things to see and do that there are. There’s everything from go-karting to archery and many sites such as Quay West in south Wales has its own on site swimming pool which is great for Kids.

The other great thing about these caravan parks is how they are built for families and their needs. One of the best things is the many kids clubs and activities on hand to keep your children entertained and hopefully tired by the end of the day! Many also have baby-sitters to watch over the little ones while the adults go out to play at night! I cant tell you how much stress it removes from your holiday when you have all of these services on hand when you need them and your not looking around in a strange country for help with your kids. Also many parents will appreciate the onsite doctors surgery that many of the bigger caravan resorts have on hand. It really is piece of mind money cant buy when you have young children with you.

The entertainment going on at many caravan sites has also definitely changed over the years. No longer is it just the clubs reps that you will be watching but proper singers and entertainers. If your a fan of X-Factor you can be sure to catch many of the contestants from this years show on sites around the country. There are also some big acts that regularly tour some of the top locations eg McFly are on their way to Butlins in Minehead this summer.

I also have to mention many of the great locations that are available for your standard static caravan in and around wales. In particular Greenacres near Snowdonia has some great beaches and golf courses on offer so there never needs to be a boring moment on your next holiday. I know for some people part of the excitement of a holiday is not knowing what will happen next but for many people and especially families its a great relief knowing that no matter what you will be able to keep the whole family entertained for the duration of the stay. Indeed its true that some people don’t even leave the campsite from the day they arrive at their caravan till the day they leave. Now you may think that this is a bit strange but given the number of things there are to do on these large campsites you wont be surprised if this happens to you too! Indeed ive been to some great onsite restaurants and bars on sites such as Hafan y Môr in North Wales which has more than one Bar to cater for different tastes.

Indeed there is an increasing need amongst different caravan sites to cater for all ages in an effort to attract a wide range of people. Nearly all sites will have at least 2 kids clubs. Usually one for 6 - 12 year olds and another from 12 to 16. Indeed you will find some really surprising developments in some parks as the Hafan y Môr park even has a StarBucks with free onsite wifi! I think its a mark of just how much caravan holidays have changed from the traditional image to the modern facilities you find in today’s resorts. I also think the price of many sites is very reasonable. For example a Prestige 3 bedroom Caravan with Haven that will accommodate 2 children and 2 adults will be around £750 per week. I think this is really good value when you compare to a hotel in a large city. Theres also alot fewer extra costs when you arrive, eg your not going to be paying for taxis like in a large city such as Cardiff.

So in review i think there is so much value (and fun) to be had on a modern caravan site and there has never been a better time to book. I can highly recommend Haven so check them out as they have some great late deals on for all types of visitor to Wales.
